Sue has worked closely with wine industry bodies such as the CSIRO Food Futures Programme, the Australian Wine Research Institute, and the Australian Wine Industry Technical Conference Advisory Committee. In 2012 she was the guest of Napa Valley winegrowers at the International Cabernet Symposium with a presentation and tasting on Australian Cabernet terroir.
In July 2017, Vines brewed a full 60-year vertical of Black Label Cabernet—a milestone in her winemaking career. He is now focused on preparing to enjoy 70 years in 2027. The Vines team is committed to embracing climate change and improving grape and wine quality. Born in England, educated in Scotland, Giles graduated from the University of Sheffield with a degree in history but had little idea of a career after that. With parents who were interested in wine and a personal love of all things food and wine, Gilles abandoned his ambition to become an accountant to pursue a career in what he loved more than anything else – wine.
30 years later, Giles’ career in wine has encompassed every aspect of the business from driving, buying, selling, marketing and finally to what he loves more than anything, making wine.
As a winemaker and manager based at Thistledon in the Adelaide Hills, Gilles has quickly gained a reputation for making some of Australia’s best Grenaches, working with the oldest vineyards and crafting wines that retain individuality and terroir. , showing low interference behavior.
