Everything You Need To Know About Royal Caribbean Cruises – Since 1970, Royal Caribbean Cruises has strived to offer seafaring travelers the experiences of a lifetime, and the company has undoubtedly revolutionized sea travel. For example, in 2021, they announced their almost year-long Ultimate World Cruise, which will sail in December 2023 and cross seven continents of the world. In January 2024, Royal Caribbean is set to launch the world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas. This coincides with the grand opening of Hideaway Beach, a private beach for guests 18 years and older. Hideaway Beach is on the northwest coast of Perfect Day in CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s beautiful private island in the Bahamas.
The island underwent a $250 million renovation in 2019 and is known as a top destination for families and children of all ages, as attractions include two waterparks: Thrill Waterpark and Splashaway Bay. In addition, Perfect Day at CocoCay has a variety of kid-friendly beaches, including Chill Island and South Beach. However, as the island’s first adults-only beach, Hideaway Beach offers guests fun and seclusion. Guests can expect two pools with swim-up bars, 20 cabanas, a DJ, and more. While most Perfect Day attractions at CocoCay are free for Royal Caribbean passengers, there is an entrance fee for Hideaway Beach.

So, how much can visitors expect to pay to visit Hideaway Beach? According to a cruise line spokesperson, via USA Today, admission prices vary but start between $39 to $89. In addition, guests must pay extra to book a private cabana, with exclusive services. There is also an access fee to The Hideout, a VIP-type area with an infinity pool and 10 cabanas.
At the time of this publication, it is unclear how much the additional experiences will cost. However, if you want to visit Hideaway Beach, Royal Caribbean has 22 cruises scheduled to stop at Perfect Day in CocoCay in 2024. Hideaway Beach can accommodate up to 1,800 and 2,000 guests. However, Royal Caribbean recommends that guests pre-book their entry to Hideaway Beach through their app. Part of Royal Caribbean’s plan to restart cruises is to conduct a series of test voyages that will give the cruise line a chance to validate new health protocols.
Test cruises are non-revenue simulated cruises conducted in a manner as close to a real cruise as possible, albeit with volunteers on board.
Here’s a summary of everything we know about Royal Caribbean’s test cruises and how they will be conducted.
Are Royal Caribbean Cruises All Inclusive?
In late October 2020, the U.S. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has opened a path for cruise lines to restart using their Framework for Conditional Sailing.
Royal Caribbean is pursuing one of two paths, outlined by the CDC, to return to sailing. It requires US-based ships to conduct simulation cruises to test health and safety protocols if the cruise line expects to return to sailing without 95% fully vaccinated guests or crew.
As a family brand, Royal Caribbean typically finds that children under the age of 12 make up 10% of our guests on board, and currently, they are not vaccine eligible.
These test cruises will employ cruise line employees (and possibly others) to help implement and test these new health rules. The goal is to make tweaks and changes to make sure everything runs smoothly.

On May 5, 2021, the CDC provided cruise lines with instructions on how to conduct test cruises.
More test voyages are likely, with each ship having to conduct test voyages to be certified by the CDC.
Before starting any test cruises, the CDC wants all cruise lines to ensure that there are adequate health and safety protections for the crew.
The test cruises will be conducted with a combination of Royal Caribbean employees and volunteers, although they are not sure how the volunteers will be selected.

Royal Caribbean’s Senior Vice President, Sales, Trade Support and Service, Vicki Freed, said, “We will be conducting a series of cruises using our employees and other volunteers to test new protocols and will make tweaks and changes to ensure everything runs smoothly and still delivers that unique Royal Caribbean vacation experience.”
The minimum requirement to become a volunteer is that you must be 18 or older, as well as have written proof that the person does not have a pre-existing medical condition that would put them at high risk for COVID-19.
The purpose of this cruise test is to apply various new policies and rules to the cruise line to ensure that they minimize any potential spread of a virus on board.
Volunteers and crew must follow testing protocols, which include rapid testing before embarkation and disembarkation.
