How To Protect Long Hair At Night – Home / Curly Hair / Curly Girl Basics / 3 Easy Ways to Protect Your Curly Hair at Night
If you’re a curly girl, you know that your hair can get a little wild sometimes. Because curls are held together by delicate chemical bonds, they are easily disturbed. Strong winds, humidity and even exercise can ruin your perfect curls. Often, these are beyond your control—and there are smart ways to protect your curls. But one of the biggest mistakes a curly girl can make is
How To Protect Long Hair At Night
Here are 3 ways to protect your curly hair at night. 1. Protect curls with a silk or satin pillowcase.

Because traditional cotton pillowcases have harsh fibers, they can cause frizz and breakage in your curls. You may go to bed with gorgeous curls, but you’ll likely wake up with frizz and tangles. And that’s not a good feeling!
This satin pillow case was sewn by my sweet grandmother. It is a buttery soft satin material. And I’ve noticed a huge difference in my hair when I sleep on it. I wake up with shinier and tidier curls every time. And, even if I sleep with half-wet hair, it still turns out great!
Now, I know this hairstyle is a little, shall we say, unusual. Your siblings may or may not tease you about having a bird’s nest on your head. However, rest assured that it is a small sacrifice for beautiful curls.
Although it may take a few tries at first, you’ll soon be able to do it in your sleep. This technique should be used on dry hair for best results.
Itchy Scalp Braids
Personally, I find the pineapple works best if I loosen a section of hair in the front first. Pretend you’re going to make a pompadour and hold in place with a small jaw clip. Next, make a pineapple and remove the clip.
But what if you have to sleep with half-wet hair? You can simply spread your hair over the pillow and let it air dry. Depending on your hair, you can have some pretty interesting results. #they were there
For me I like to put it in a high ponytail. Simply flip over, gather your hair on top of your head and tie an elastic (hair tie) twice around your hair. For a more secure ponytail, you can add 2 or 3 hair clips to tie the elastic and your hair together.

If you have afro hair, you know that one of the worst things that can happen is waking up to a head full of knots. To avoid this, put your hair in a pineapple before going to bed. This simply means pulling your hair into a high ponytail on top of your head. Not only will this keep your hair tangle-free overnight, but it will also help maintain your style so you can grab and go in the morning.
Ways To Make Your Hair Grow Faster
If you don’t have one, invest in a silk pillowcase. Silk is much gentler on your hair than cotton or other fabrics, so it’s less likely to cause breakage or frizz overnight. Plus, it’ll help keep your style intact longer so you don’t have to worry about redoing it every morning.
Another important step in afro hair care at night is moisturizing before bed. This helps prevent your hair from becoming dry or brittle overnight, which can lead to breakage. Choose a moisturizer that’s rich in natural oils like jojoba or coconut oil and apply it from root to tip before going to bed.
After applying moisture, make sure to seal your ends with an oil or butter of your choice. This helps prevent split ends and protects your hair from damage overnight. Popular options include shea butter, olive oil, and avocado oil. Simply apply a small amount to the ends of your strands before wearing your pineapple or braids for the night.
It’s important to remember that your scalp needs love too! Be sure to massage a few selected oils into your scalp before bed as part of your nightly routine. Not only will this help keep your scalp healthy, but it can also promote hair growth. A little goes a long way when it comes to oils, so start with just a few drops and work it in.. You can also try using a jade roller or Gua Sha tool to massage your scalp if you prefer.

1) I have to use a comb to wrap my hair around my head. I avoid brushing my hair more than once a week. Therefore, brushing at night is a big no no for me.
2) Many ladies who wrap their hair around their hair at night do so because they intend to wear it the next day and want to keep it from creasing. I hardly take my hair out because I like buns and washes. I wear protective styles most of the time, so I don’t mind if my hair has a few frizzies when I wake up in the morning and take off my scarf.

With cross wraps I have some kinks or creases in my hair when I wake up the next day, but I don’t mind.
Please note that cross wrapping is not the only way to protect your hair at night. I’m just sharing what I do with my hair and what works for me.
