Losing your driver’s license can be a big hassle as well as a potential safety hazard. Whether you’re out with friends at a restaurant or hiking in the woods with your dog, realizing you’ve lost your license can leave you with a sinking feeling as you have all the thoughts on your mind. “What if” is playing out. But don’t despair! Losing your driver’s license is painful but it has happened to many people.
What I Need To Get My Drivers License
While losing your driver’s license is nothing to panic about, it is important to take proactive steps as soon as possible. The most important reason for this is to prevent someone from fraudulently using your license. This could be in the form of identity theft or being pulled over while driving by someone who falsely claims to be you. By reporting that you’ve lost your license to the proper authorities, you’ll create a paper trail that can help you get back on the road if any of these problems occur.
I Lost My License
Before you get too worried about the consequences of losing your license we’ve created a step-by-step guide and infographic to help you learn what to do.
The first thing to do is try and remember where you lost your license so you can retrace your steps in hopes of finding it again. Take a moment to think about the last time you looked at your license. Where have you been since that moment? From the last time you saw your license to the moment you realized it was missing, it can be helpful to write down each place in order.
Another important thing to consider is how the license disappeared. Do you have a hole in your pocket? Did it fall out of an open bag or purse? Maybe someone asked to check your license but forgot to give it back? If you can figure out how you lost your license it can quickly narrow down the list of places you will need to try and recover your license.
If your license has just gone missing in the last few minutes or hours and you’re not sure how it went missing, try retrieving your movements in reverse chronological order. You have started in the most recent location. If outside, keep your eyes on the ground and visually scan the area in front of you. If you’ve recently visited an establishment such as a restaurant or bank, ask an employee if someone has obtained a driver’s license.

When all else fails and you can’t seem to find your lost license, here are the next steps to take.
By now you’ve taken the time to try and remember where you might have lost your license and carefully retraced your steps. If you still can’t find your license, now is the time to take action by taking the necessary steps to obtain a replacement. There are 2 options when it comes to renewing your license: online or in person. The online option is ideal because you can provide all the necessary information that the DMV needs from the comfort of your own home. Another advantage is that you don’t have to wait for an appointment and you can access the online system 24/7.
If you wish to request a replacement in person it is important to book as soon as possible. You may still be able to walk in during DMV business hours, but there’s a good chance you’ll be waiting a long time and there’s no guarantee they’ll be able to help you. Because most DMVs work the first time. -Come, first served basis.
